Day 1: Long day, short on miles

Well, I didn't get very far for the first day. I left my (old) home around 11:30 but didn't actually leave Seattle until 1:30. First I had to try to find a car charger for my phone (still no such luck; I guess it's time for a new phone) and then I figured I needed lunch before I left. I had already been driving for 2 hours before I even left town! So I'm not surprised I ended up getting tired pretty quickly. I ended up getting to Spokane, about 250 miles or so. Tonight, we're staying in a motel (Super 8 is apparently pet friendly with no size restrictions - it seems everyone here has a big dog! so that's good to know).

The car is packed completely full. I barely had enough room to get everything in. But Hailey is handling it quite well. She pretty much slept the whole way (lucky her). Our (less than) exciting stops for the day were a couple of rest stops and the viewpoint overlooking the Columbia River (see picture) which I've stopped at a million times, but is just a beautiful scene.

As far as food goes, I haven't yet broken down and got any fast food (it would've been sad if that would have happened on day 1!). Lunch was at Sacks in Bellevue (a really great sandwich shop... because they put cream cheese on everything!) but after that, carrots, trail mix, an apple, and beef jerkey along with my nettle infusion helped me through the drive. And dinner was smoked salmon from Pike Place Fish (yum!), arugula, a hardboiled egg, and bread with peanut butter.

Anyway, a pretty boring day on the drive, but hopefully tomorrow will involve a hike in Idaho and some more sights. Now let's see if I can get a good nights sleep...

I'm actually almost out of nettles. I think I have one more infusion left. But they work fine on the road as long as I have a microwave in the hotel room. I tried the coffee makers, but they don't get the water hot enough. Though you could just do cold infusions. But having them is perfect for staying hydrated and getting extra minerals.
