Crazy Volkswagen Electrical Voodoo

Well, when the service guy tried the car this morning, it started right up. They've poked and prodded at it, but can't find anything wrong. This will make the 3rd time the car has failed to start. The first at about 8,000 miles when it worked fine about 4 hours later; the second at 40,000 miles (towed and repaired; though I don't know whether it started the next morning before any repairs); and now at 44,000. Each time it happened after the car sat in the full sun for a while (though the first time it was a winter day, so even though it was sunny, it wasn't all that hot).

Anyway, the point is that there's nothing that they can really do, so now I'm waiting for the shuttle driver to come get me and then we'll just see what happens next. Clearly, the car will do this again eventually, just hopefully not on this trip (maybe it's just truly a Seattle car and can't handle the sunshine!) But just to be sure, I did check out where the next few VW repair shops are on the way! (maybe I'll just use AAA to tow me the rest of the way)

My Jeep did that a couple summers ago-- every time I left it in the sun it would refuse to start. Eventually a battery replacement seemed to fix it, but I like your theory better that Seattle cars just can't deal with heat....
